Cheryl has been creating and marketing her illustrations and paintings as prints and notecards for some 30 years. She is a self-taught artist who from an early age began drawing portraits and various greeting card designs. She attended continuing education courses at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) to increase her knowledge and improve her skills, in addition to gaining an exposure to the broader art community and various artistic mediums. This gave her the confidence, knowledge and the tools she needed to pursue her goal as an artist. She resides in Rumford, Rhode Island with her husband John and her three children Patrick, Caitlin and Kelsey.
Cheryl’s artwork ranges in style from whimsical to realistic, and all images share a common theme, to inspire and uplift. Her passions focus mostly on painting nostalgic Christmas designs, holiday themes, angels and Amish children. The images she creates are not just pleasing to the eye, but also arouse emotion in the viewer. Making this connection is her ultimate goal with each piece.
Cheryl’s love for the Amish culture began in 1973 with a family trip to Lancaster, PA. The peacefulness and beauty of the landscape and the Amish culture left vivid and pleasant memories that made her return again and again. Since 1985, Cheryl and her family have visited Lancaster almost every year and became very good friends with a local Amish family. These many visits and personal experiences have allowed Cheryl to further connect and understand the Amish culture and traditions, allowing her to translate her love of Lancaster through her art.
